Bandon Dunes Golf Resort & Old Macdonald Master Plan
Positioning Oregon’s world-renowned golf resort for the future
Within the golfing community, Bandon Dunes Golf Resort continues to be one of the top-rated golf destination resorts in the world. The region lends itself perfectly to links-style golf with its rugged coastal cliffs and rolling sand dunes. To meet an ever-growing demand of the golfing community, Bandon Dunes Golf Resort continually works to expand their resort offerings through the development of new golf courses, lodging, amenities, and infrastructure.

As part of the Old Macdonald master plan, Scott Edwards Architecture designed a new 36-room lodge and four private cottages for the resort, nestled in and around the Old Macdonald course. Adjacent to the newly completed and award-winning Ghost Tree Grill, the resort’s newest lodging offerings are under development with their opening planned for summer of 2027.
The new Lodge is positioned at the 1st tee box and will offer endless views to the north, overlooking golfers, rolling landscape, and incoming weather. As the design for the new Lodge developed, Scott Edwards Architecture worked to maintain a contemporary vernacular that connects the design to the nearby Ghost Tree Grill by borrowing elements such as asymmetrical gabled roofs, cedar cladding, and walls of windows.
Careful attention was paid to the building placement and elevation, ensuring that lodging and golfing are choreographed together. The Lodge features a large lobby space, wrap-around covered porch, and an outdoor patio with a fire pit offering flexible gathering and socializing options for guests.
Nearby, four new cottages are planned and will hug the shoreline of Elbow Lake. Each cottage includes four separate guest rooms, a common living room, kitchenette, dining space, and a laundry room, perfect for groups of eight to sixteen guests.
Guests will be greeted with the serene lake views enjoyed through expansive window walls and a covered deck. Designed to allow guests both private, independent spaces and areas for socializing, the common kitchenette, dining room, and living room provide an opportunity for comradery to flourish. An open plan for ample circulation, as well as spacious vaulted ceilings, mirror the contemporary vernacular of the nearby Ghost Tree Grill and new Lodge with an asymmetrical gabled roof, cedar cladding, and large expanses of windows.
“We have had the opportunity to work with Scott Edwards Architecture over the past 6 years, and have greatly enjoyed collaborating with them on several projects throughout our resort campus. Their team always provides a high-level of attention to the needs of our guests and staff here at Bandon Dunes. SEA has the ability to listen and truly understand our vision, and then deliver a design that is uniquely Bandon Dunes... this keeps us wanting to do more work with them in the future.”
With any type of resort or campus-type of facility comes a multitude of supporting buildings, offices, storage, services, utilities, and other infrastructure to support the primary operation of the property. While these considerations often go unnoticed, tucked away from everyday view, they are critical to successful, everyday operation. In addition to the new Lodge and cottages, Scott Edwards Architecture has worked with Bandon Dunes Golf Resort to develop and improve a number of these facilities including a Caddie Pavilion expansion and renovation, Randolph Center expansion and renovation, Round Lake Lodging interior design, Chrome Lake Lodging renovations, Agronomy Building expansion and renovation, a new Old Macdonald Snack Shack, McKees Pub & event space renovation, and design visioning for a future permanent Shorty’s Clubhouse.
