Elevating togetherness and rest

Portland Hospitality Architects
Scott Edwards Architecture’s hospitality designs elevate togetherness and rest into memorable experiences. Our firm provides architecture, interior design, and planning services for these types of places throughout the Pacific Northwest and across the United States. Our work in this sector cultivates wonder and a sense of place and invites guests to immerse themselves fully in the surroundings. We use design to compose moments of decompression, inviting visitors to be fully present in the space they’re inhabiting.

To design these moments, we are looking for an authentic story to tell to connect the project back to the rooted history of a place, a neighborhood, a City, or even a region. For many of our designs, this means blurring the edge between indoor and outdoor, whether by promoting views of nature or providing access to outdoor spaces. SEA creates architectural responses that respond to the project’s use and unique location—breweries may leave their brewing equipment exposed, fine dining restaurants might have an open kitchen, and winery tasting rooms may overlook the vines where grapes are cultivated, all to the same end—to invite patrons into the experience of crafting what it is they’re enjoying.

We frequently partner with clients to adaptively reuse existing building stock for a new purpose. This approach to hospitality spaces can mean salvaging elements, like equipment or structure, from the existing building and integrating them into the design experience for the new users, helping to write a new chapter of the building’s story. This approach to hospitality has many benefits, including standing out in a saturated market, highlighting inherent texture rather than needing to build it in, and being sustainable in many cases, as reusing rather than building new can reduce carbon emissions.

The architects at SEA enjoy working with hospitality clients to create memorable experiences. From Oregon coast lodges and inns to fine dining in central Oregon to wineries and breweries from Portland to New York, we have designed numerous recognizable and oft-revisited hospitality destinations. Additional hospitality work includes boutique hotels, wine-tasting rooms, brew pubs, restaurants, food carts, and entertainment venues.
