Scott Edwards Architecture is a firm built on the idea that innovative design solutions result from a collaborative effort between architect, client, and community. We lead our clients on an exploration of possibility, guided by traditional principles of design, clarified through a contemporary perspective.

SEA emphasizes the importance of quality of life for ourselves and the communities we affect, our relationships and work-life balance.

Benefits of working at SEA

We’re an eclectic team of over 90 people with a passion for creating buildings that serve. Informed and inspired by our own varied interests, areas of specialty, and preferred tools (from models and software, to pen and paper), together, our processes are defined by collaboration, creativity, and ingenuity. Simply put, we love what we do and love doing it together.

Paid Volunteering

SEA pays up to 8 hours of time for our staff to volunteer each year, whether through a firm initiative or volunteering outside of work. SEA highly values giving back to our community throughout the year and we encourage staff to get involved. Some of these recent volunteering activities include ACE Mentorship, Architects in Schools, Rebuilding Together, neighborhood and beach clean-ups through SOLVE. Kenton Women’s Pod design, St. Johns Transitional Pods, Habitat for Humanity.

Work-Life Balance

We don’t believe in overworking our staff—in fact, we work really hard to keep everyone’s workload at 40 hours. If you have a deadline that requires you to burn the midnight oil or come in on the weekend, we want you to take the time off to recharge. Any extra hours worked in a month are saved as Additional Time Off (ATO) and can be used at any time, just like PTO, within three months.

Professional Development

We support our staff in pursuing continuing education and architectural licensure. Upon achieving a first professional license (architecture or interiors) SEA will reimburse the entire cost of the ARE or NCIDQ exams when completed and passed as an employee of the firm. SEA creates the space to continually share knowledge, experience, and lessons learned across the firm. We also support staff involvement in industry organizations, local government councils, and more.

Additional Benefits

  • Medical, Dental, Vision, Short- and Long-Term Disability, and Life Insurance

  • SEA pays 100% of employee-only monthly premiums

  • 401(k) plan and employer contributions (regardless of participation in 401(k) retirement program)

  • Personal Time Off (PTO) and Additional Time Off (ATO)

  • Optional Flexible Spending Account

  • Flexible working hours and location

Please find our Transparency in Coverage (Tic) of health plans here.

We also have fun!

Spending time with coworkers outside of project work is an important component of SEA’s culture. The firm hosts a variety of social activities throughout the year and supports team events like softball, Cascade Lakes Relay, Hood to Coast, and many more. New ideas for fun are welcomed by all, and don’t be surprised if an impromptu pickle-tasting pops up in the kitchen, or the opportunity to carpool to the coast for a SOLVE beach clean-up arises!

Our culture is vastly different from other firms. We really understand that life and people are more important than work. Everyone takes care of each other here.
