Jane's Orchard Residence
Refined Vancouver home emphasizes lush garden setting
Jane’s Orchard Residence has a refined, quiet presence well-suited for its garden setting. The home is the final piece in a years-long effort to transform a beautiful parcel of land in Vancouver, Washington, into a cluster of homes for three generations of one family with deep Pacific Northwest roots. The architecture is simple, elevated, and of its place, with a timeless material palette of wood, steel, and glass. The restrained footprint is tailored to our client’s vision for daily life. Open interiors with sightlines and access to outdoor spaces promote tranquility and connection with nature. The design cultivates moments for comfortable solitude and lively gatherings, an important balance that needed to be struck.

Jane’s Orchard Residence forms the northern boundary of the multi-generational parcel. To reach the main entry, one walks along a landscaped pathway, the approach offering views of the lush gardens and lawns to the south. These outdoor common areas are shared with the other family homes.
The home’s entryway is washed in natural light. A grand feature stair ascends to the second level through the double-height atrium. A wall of windows heightens the stairs’ impact in the space while creating enough light for a dedicated indoor plant sanctuary underneath.
The transparency of the entryway continues into the living, dining, and kitchen, an open greatroom overlooking the covered patio and family gardens. Connecting to the greatroom is a study, butler’s pantry, and guest bathroom, curated spaces that complete the first level.
The fireplace is wrapped in cedar siding that matches the home's exterior, a connection visible through the upper windows of the double-height entry space.
A generous primary suite occupies the majority of the second level. The bedroom connects to a large, partially covered roof deck, with the bed positioned to view the outdoor space, mature garden trees, and open sky beyond. The spa-like primary bathroom features high-end finishes and an integrated sauna. The second level also has a laundry room and additional storage.
Well-considered spaces and an effortless flow from the interior to exterior respond to our client’s desire for a home that is a retreat. Jane’s Orchard Residence’s straightforward architecture invites calm and connection, ensuring the home’s enjoyment for generations to come.
