Portland Police Bureau Training Complex

“Going through the development of [the Training Complex] all we ever heard from both the training advisory committee members and the training staff and folks who are in service and in the academy, all they really wanted was a roof over their head and running water, because they didn’t have those at any of the other sites.” “This is a huge answer to everybody’s prayer.” – Ann Krohn, PPB Facilities Coordinator

Details

A consolidated training facility for the Portland Police has been on the minds of officers, mayors, city commissioners and police chiefs a lot over the past decade. With the opening of the Portland Police Bureau Training Complex on NE Airport Way that longtime dream has finally been realized. The selected site seamed nearly tailor made for the new Training Complex. The warehouse’s size, layout and tall spaces lent itself well to the police training program, with only a small addition required. One wing houses a scenario village, a small indoor city comprised of two roads and six different individual buildings. A mezzanine serves as on observation point for trainers. Another wing contains two 50-yard shooting ranges separated from other training and classroom space by locker and storage spaces. The buildings former showroom and office area were converted into classroom and defensive tactics training areas, while the fourth wing was utilized for office and meeting room space for the facilities permanent employees and instructors. The large paved area to the south is used for patrol vehicle training.
