The Meals on Wheels’ project, The Diner, wins a Vancouver Business Journals 2019 Top Projects award in the Commercial Category. The award features the year’s outstanding top projects for design, construction and development in SW Washington.
About the project:
A “first of its kind” restaurant for the Meals on Wheels organization providing a place where the public, as well as those being served by the Meals on Wheels program can dine; providing opportunities for a delicious meal and social interaction supporting the motto “serving more than just a meal”.
S|EA helped Meals on Wheels to define the aesthetic for their new project, The Diner. The project includes the refresh of a 1970s building in Vancouver, WA that accommodates the now modern diner as well as the functions of their non-profit meal delivery service, which is operated from the back of the restaurant. The vision was to create a modern diner with nods to classic mid-century establishments, yet includes an aesthetic rooted in the Pacific Northwest vernacular. The exterior refresh included a newly enclosed foyer and plenty of paint. Interior features such as Doug Fir wainscoting and exposed beams, a retro-inspired checkerboard patterned floor and L-shaped eating counter invite a new generation of diners to this Vancouver establishment.
