The house is elegantly perched on two concrete piers that raise the living area up above the horizon, providing expansive views of the beach and Pacific Ocean to the west. The owner desired a casual, modern, respite from the city fully immersed in the beauty of the coast. A floating roof plane extends from the home, sheltering and shading the spaces underneath during the ever-changing weather. A fire pit and outdoor gathering space anchors the east end of the residence, tucked under the living areas above, while an open fresh-air breezeway stores essential outdoor gear and frames the view of the rolling sandscape. Board-formed concrete, cedar wood walls, and structural steel sections establish strong horizontal gestures that mimic the endless horizon.
