Kenton Women’s Village
The Kenton Women’s Village is the City of Portland’s first sanctioned community for houseless women.
Details
A permanent site located in North Portland, equipped with 24 sleeping pods, utilities and services, in order to provide individuals the opportunity to transition into permanent housing. S|EA contributed the design of the Catalyst pod and helped with coordinating the efforts of creating the village. There are 8 different Catalyst pods on site, built by local contractors, and serve as a safe and warm place to sleep. This housing model has shown immediate success with helping women find employment and permanent housing, leading to a better quality of life.
Eric Wenzel, S|EA Architect, took the lead on the design of the 100 sf catalyst pod. The contemporary design offers daylighting, natural ventilation, built-in storage and a small front sitting porch to enjoy the outdoors under cover. Eric remained involved throughout construction of the pods to ensure a final quality product for the future female residents.
