Happy Valley Library
The Happy Valley Library is a 17,500 sf, two-story renovation and addition of an existing community building located in Happy Valley, Oregon. It inspires reading, learning and an appreciation of quiet.
Details
The addition created a new building entry and plaza, connecting the building to the new parking area located in the community park. The ground floor entry leads to the circulation desk and reading area, which is the access hub to the library's collections, the main stack room, Internet reference area, teen library and media section. The children's library is located on the second floor, overlooking the level below. The project team collaborated with local woodworkers and artists and utilized signage to reinforce the design concept of interlocking space and to encourage public participation.
