Fern Ridge Service Center
Funded in part by a Community Development Block Grant, this facility combines several local social service programs including a senior center and food bank to serve the lower Lane County region. The building forms a centerpiece to a newly developed main street in the small, rural town of Veneta, Oregon.
Details
The offices, conference/community room, and storage are all designed to provide flexible space and to maximize limited grant funds. The design incorporates numerous sustainable features and honors the community’s heritage by utilizing rapidly renewable or recycled forest products. Natural daylight and ventilation, energy-efficient lighting, low-flow plumbing fixtures, non-toxic and renewable materials, plus on-site and on-building (green roof) storm water harvesting and treatment are all combined with opportunities for photovoltaic renewable energy generation to minimize the building’s carbon footprint.
