Located steps from a high cliff overlooking the pristine northern Oregon Coast, the Cape Falcon Residence is a reinterpretation of modernist coastal design. Natural materials, a site-specific relationship with the landscape, and preservation of open space sets the stage for a simple, but elegant sensory experience. Mindfully sited within a forest to take full advantage of the dramatic views of both the Coastal Range mountains and Pacific Ocean, the house affords its owners with ample privacy while delivering expansive views into the surrounding landscape. The home is organized into public and private sections in the shape of an “L”. The public section is recognized by a large roof floating above the space, provides welcome protection from the elements, and echoes the cantilevered living space below. The private section extends south from the entry and is designed to enable a restful, simple lifestyle. A roof deck with outdoor fireplace accessed from the exterior provides unencumbered 360 degree views of the rugged, natural landscape and is an ideal perch to spot native wildlife in the area.
